I am interested in expressing life changes and the human condition in metaphorical ways through geometric and abstract designs. My most recent work focuses on using color gradations to express transformations. These gradations of color are painted on bamboo which I insert in the weft. I use natural fibers, such as wool, silk and bamboo yarns, to express my value for the natural world and our need to care for our environment.
I have loved making handmade textiles since my grandmother taught me to embroider when I was a little girl. I began my weaving career by weaving rugs and liturgical textiles. After moving to Santa Fe, New Mexico, I became interested in the cultural diversity of the region and studied women’s history and art. Since that time I have created one-of-a-kind handwoven wall hangings, and woven books and boxes. I moved to Asheville, North Carolina, in
mid--2005 and continue to work at what gives me great joy to do. |
